Hey all, im new to this board but sure glad I found it.I have had my TO-30 for like 10 years and love it.I have been fortunate to have a shop close by where I bought both shop manuals and parts manual so I got all the break down info I need. I use my tractor to bush hog and box blade on my 5 acre woods here in Fla. The woods here a bit thicker than most of u all up north are used to. One day soon Im planning on restoring my old gal.

So my question is what do you all think about paint and such. My TO-30 has Masssy Ferguson red and silver paint scheme and Massey Ferguson decals on the hood although I now know these are not correct. Its funny how many people call the "Ferguson" tractors "Massy Fergusons" even though the Ferguson predates the Massy Ferguson. And I look through the pics here and see many other Fergusons painted the Massy Ferguson red and silver. I my self love the looks of the red and silver much more than the dull Ferguson battleship grey even though I know its correct. And I have thought of adding a tach/hour meter and a new padded, modern seat to replace the old hard metal one. SO what do you all think? I dont really plan on showing my tractor in the future after I restore it but I guess I could.I can get all the origianl trim and make it look like new but I'm trying to decide if I want to go that route or just make it like I want.

Reading through the posts here I dont think anyone here takes thier tractors to shows. Has anyone here ever shown your tractor?Are we missing much if we dont? I think most of us here just use ours for work.

Thanks for the input to all. I guess we all are pretty much in the same boat here which is why I am so glad I found this site. Most people with tractors these days are city to country tranplants trying to work on a few acres.I have had Fergy for 10 years now but still have much to learn.I have pretty much decided I will go back all original when I restore her, dull grey and all. I sure like the red and silver but Ill make her original. I was looking through my parts list book and found a "Deluxe" seat otion I can get with a nice padded back and seat cushion.Thats cool with all the lamps and original stuff mines missing it will be pretty usefull.
I dont know if I will ever show her but I guess she might make a parade or something and I wouldnt want her to be mistaken for a "Massy Ferguson" anymore.Thanks again all.

I have one TO30 I have taken to shows. I painted it the correct grey. I found it in a weed patch with stuck motor and dragged it home (it followed me, hon!). Anyway whatever works for you is fine, but I like to use the original color, etc. I have another TO30 that is rusty red with yellow paint underneath (I think it began life as an industrial / municipal tractor). I may paint it yellow one day, as I think that was its original color.

Hey Tim, This past summer I completely rebuilt my TO-30 (mechanically that is). I fixed the sheetmetal as much as my abilities would permit but when it came time to paint her I just couldn't bear to keep that old ugly gray. I guess I got a wild hair and decided to paint her black and yellow.

Now that she's all dirty and has a few new scratches it doesn't really matter what the color scheme is. Anyway nobody ever sees her but me.

When it comes to color selection - you're the only one that has to be satisfied.

Here in Pa. you don't find many Fergies at shows, but there's always one or two when it come time to pull. I guess that old grey is too drab for showin. I gave a thought to repainting red and grey, but can't do it. Its always workin anyway.

Hi Tim, I'm a purist so you know my position already. You can save money by visiting most any tractor supply store and buying a padded cover for the metal pan seat, Ferguson,Ford use the same style. If you have a inkling of showing your tractor in the future I think repainting the original color will be the best route. Most tractor shows are for restored to original condition shows. I don't show mine, it's a working tractor and looks like it, scrapes, dings, scratches etc. I restored it 13yrs ago to all original condition, and it was hard to resist the buy offers when it looked like new. Point is- your tractor when restored will have greater value when/if you ever sell it, if you use original paint,parts.

Well Tim, I'm not an expert on Fergies since I just got my first one this summer. It is painted the red and gray probably like yours, and I can't wait to paint it the original all gray. We will have to wait till spring now, since we are in Ohio. Don't know what it's like living in Fla. but I would think with the red you'd attract the gators. :)

PS- I kinda like the dull battleship gray, it matches my hair.
