Throwout bearing and Head Gaskit? TO-30

Hello; Dose anyone know if the throwout bearing, pilot bearing should be serviced with lithium grease (packed) and is there a recomeded sealer for a new head gaskit or should it be installed without any? Still waiting for my manual. Thanks Mark H.

Hi Mark,
I always use an enamel spray paint to seal the head gasket. I learned this technique back in the 70's when I built high compression engines for my sports cars. Spray both sides and let it sit for a couple hours to set up a bit (not dry). Then install and torque it down. The paint is such a thin layer that it doesn't disrupt any passsages and fills in any small head surface imperfections. If you ever need to change it the paint just flakes off.

Mark: The pilot and release bearings are sealed and do not need grease. If you're in there for any reason, just replace them. They go on dry, though you could put a few smears of grease on any contact/wear points (like the pivot points of the release bearing fork and where the release bearing slides on the front shaft of the transmission, etc.) You do not want grease flying around in the clutch chamber and don't put grease where the release bearing contacts the clutch pressure plate.

As far as a head gasket goes, I don't like all the sealers that are around today. My approach is to put a smear of grease on the gasket and the gasket surfaces of the head and block. Torque the head bolts in proper sequence and to specifications.

THANKS GUYS!! For all the help! She is all back together now and running tight and smoke free!! Even got to grade 800ft of fire trail and got my parking area ready for gravel!! These Fergusons are sur a Work Horse!!! Thanks Again, Mark H.
