Starter hook-up

Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry about converting to 12 volts.

In every diagram I received there are more than one wire going to the starter. My starter has a brass post with a battery cable attached from the starter switch. Where would one connect these other wires coming from an alternator?

If it were mine I would hook the alt. wire to the starter switch. Not the switch to starter side but the starter switch to batt. + side. If you hook it to the starter post of the starter the only way it can charge is to hold the starter engaged. If you have an ammeter you will need to go there also on the way from the + batt. post to starter switch. If you have an idiot light, the idiot light won't work with a one wire alt. but the alt. will.This assumes you have a 12 volt neg, ground system.

I'm not sure I follow you here. My starter switch is my shift lever. Do you mean the cable connection on top of bell housing?

My tractor has NO charging system. Therefor, I connect my negative battery cable to my 12 volt battery, open my fuel petcock, push the shift lever into start slot and this baby starts first time. When battery gets low I charge it with a solar charger.

From the cable terminals on top of bell housing there is one cable running to the only available post on the starter. I don't see another electrical terminal on the starter motor to hook a wire from the alternator. This is a 1949 TEA-20.

If you can help I'd really appreciate it.
