PTO half off TO20

I got myself and my TO20 into a fix this afternoon and would appreciate any help anyone can give! The shaft from my brush hog got jammed onto the PTO and I couldn't separate them, so I thought I could pull the PTO off the tractor and take the whole thing to a work bench. I undid the four bolts on the cover plate around the PTO (after draining the oil) and pulled the shaft out about 3-4". It won't come any further, and it won't go back in. Now I can't drive the tractor (no oil in rear end). Any suggestions?

You have probarbly twisted the pto shaft, you`l have to "pull like the devil" to get it out!!!!

I got the shaft off with a come along and a crow bar. No sign of twisting, but I'll look closer before replacing it. One of the snap rings was missing from the PTO shaft, and that was allowing the shaft to move in and out. The shaft from the brush hog wasn't telescoping, and it allowed the shaft to jam up against the snap ring, popping it out of place. I still haven't got the brush hog shaft off the PTO shaft, which was my original problem, and I suspect my overrunning clutch is not functioning properly...that could be part of the problem.
