HEY GUYS, GOT THE GENERATOR BACK AND SHE IS STARTING RIGTH UP.HOWEVER,I THINK I'M GONNA NEED A NEW REGULATOR.I HAD THE GUY DOING MY GENERATOR TAKE A LOOK AT IT. ALTOUGH THE POINTS WEREN'T FUSED,ONE WAS BADLY SCORCHED. HE SUGGESTED I TRY IT ANYWAY. WELL MY RED DASH LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE SHE IS RUNNING,SO I GUESS IT'S TIME TO REPLACE IT.

MY NEW DILEMMA IS I HAVE TWO OPENINGS ON MY AIR CANNISTER.ONE IS DIRECTLY BELOW THE BOTTOM AND THE OTHER IS OFF TO SIDE ON THE TOP.I NEED TO GET A PIPE THAT CONNECTS TO THE CARB. AND THIS CANNISTER.THE QUESTION IS,WHICH OPENING DO I USE.

Kooz: Before replacing your regulator, check that the generator pully is not slipping (if so, tighten the fanbelt) and that the light does not go out at higher rpm--if it does, I think you should be fine for the time being.

For the oil bath air filter, the upper filter connection (to the side) is the one to connect to the carb--usually there is a metal pipe that has a rubber hose connector at each end (carb end and air filter end). From your description, it sounds like your set up is missing the oil bath cup that is supported from the bottom of the air filter. Have your Massey Ferguson dealer print/copy the page from their parts catalogue to see what I am talking about--unless you have another source for a catalogue. Hope this helps, David, MI.

DAVID, THANKS FOR THE INFO AND ADVICE ON THE REGULATOR. I'LL CHECK TO MAKE SURE BELT IS TIGHT AND GIVE A LITTLE MORE RPM TO THE IDLE TO CHECK IT OUT. ALSO, GREATLY APPRECIATE THE INFO WITH THE OIL BATH AIR FLTR.NOW I'LL BE ABLE TO GET ACCURATE MEASURMENTS AND ANGLE BENDS ON THE PIPING.THE SERVICE SHOP I FOUND SEEMS TO BE UP ON THE FERGIE'S. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF HIS PARTS BOOK. IKNOW I NEED THE PIPE IN QUESTION ASAP SO AS NOT TO GET DIRT IN THE CARB., BUT HOW ESSENTIAL IS THAT LWR BATH CUP? THANKS!!!

Kooz: The oil bath is pretty critical, as any particulate matter in the air gets deposited in the bath as the air is drawn up through the bath, then the filter material before it reaches the carb air inlet. Without the oil bath or making modifications, it would be like having a straight pipe as an ait inlet (no filtering). As a temporary fix, you might be able to take the lower portion of a tin can (coffee can) and hold it/fasten it to the lower portion of the air cleaner using a universal clamp (or something like that). You would need to have the inlet at the bottom of the air cleaner assmebly submerged in oil in your makeshift cup. Hope this makes sense and does help. David, MI

Ditto to what Dave said, but be SURE the inlet is not tight on the bottom of the can... keep it up a bit... there has to be room for the air and oil to circulate, or you will choke off the system. Another possibility is to jury rig a paper filter as a temporary measure.

Dave and Rick thanks for your imput guys. the generator belt is tight and i tried rasing the idle up, but the red light stays on. so I'm thinking of going with new regulator. with regards to the fltr system, I'm definitely looking at either the parts manual or possibly other tractors that might be in the area and look at first hand. there appears to be an original clamp that certainly held something down on the bottom.I'm pretty sure the tractor place I've been dealing with will be able to help. as a temporary fix, i was thinking of cutting a 2# coffee can in half, drilling a bunch of holes and put some medium steel wool in it and try to use that clamp to hold it in place.whada ya think? p.s. sorry it took so long to get back to guys.thanks again kooz
