TO35 Transmission

Underneath the transmission (single clutch) is a cavity covered by a plate held in place with four bolts. A couple of inches in front of that is a small (1/4 inch) hole with a cotter pin through it. I am wondering two things. What is the purpose of the cavity - when you remove the cover what do you now have access to? What is the purpose of the hole with the cotter key through it? I have a small amount of oil leaking out the hole around the cotter pin - should I be alarmed?

Garry - the small hole with the cotter key is a drain hole. The key keeps it from getting pluged. As the rubber seals in the shaft/countershaft unit wear, a certain amount of leakage will occur. Don't be alarmed if it is a small amount. I recently overhauled my TO-35 tranny. It was creating a veritable flood!. As to the plate with the four holes - frankly I'm not sure what its real purpose is since you cannot do to much to a tranny without splitting the tractor and removing it . Perhaps some others have a better notion of its purpose.

I don't know what that access hole is for, but I use it to adjust the clutch fingers on my double clutch 35, I have also seen loaders that bolt on there, have fun adjusting your clutch then..... ..
