I have a 1950 to20 that has been converted to a 12v system. The person disconnected the shift lever starter and added a solenoid and key ignition. I heard that this could be a bad thing and that I should convert it back to 6v. Also I think the solenoid may be wired wrong, and I do not know the correct way. Can anyone give me any feedback on my problem.

If it is like my 30 the starter switch activated by the shifter is very simple to put in provided the linkage is still in there. And makes for a safe and simple way to start. Or just install a dash switch without the solenoid.

I don't think there is anything "bad" about converting to 12V provided it is done correctly and well. The only problem with bypassing the shifter starter switch is that you can now start the tractor with it in gear. I think the easiest way to figure out how to wire the solenoid would be to go to a local parts store or garage and ask.
