I have a 1951 TO30 with an overheating problem. I have changed the thermostat, all hoses, radiator cap, and flushed the radiator. The water pump appears to be working ok. Any ideas on what I should look at next? Your help is greatly appreciated.

if you changed the thermostat and then your problems began you either have a bad thermostat or it was installed wrong. be careful not to let the engine overheat as those continental engines (if you one) are prone to engine block cracking when overheated!!!

Did you blow air through the air side of the radiator?

Michael: Hi. What are the symptoms of overheating that you are experiencing? A few thoughts without this info are to check your carb adjustments to make sure that they are not set too lean. Is the timing set correctly? Check your fanbelt tension to make sure the water pump pulley is not slipping. Try removing the thermostat to see if it is less likely to overheat. If you are relying on a temp gauge to determine that it is overheating, are there other indicators of overheating? When you had your radiator cleaned, did the service provider test for fluid flow restrictions?

David, the symtoms I am getting are as follows:
anti-freeze comes out of the overflow tube and the tractor gets hard to start (like a car does when it gets hot). I'm going to put back in the old thermostat because I don't remember it doing this prior to my installing a new thermostat and I guess it is possible to get a bad one. I'll stay in touch and let you know how it goes. I do plan on looking at your suggestions and trying them if the thermostat thing doesn't work.

Thanks for you help,
Michael Williams
