When I brought my TO-20 home it ran but needed a lot of cleaning. The left and right brake pedals worked fine then, but after I steam-cleaned, disassembled the rear axles & replaced the brakes etc, the brakes work great, but both the right and left pedal bars stick now (until the main brake pedal is depressed, which releases them). At first I thought something was binding up, but everything looks to be assembled correctly. There doesn't seem to be any way to lubricate the links aside from taking it all apart again. Hmmm . . .

Do they bind when pushed down, or when pulled up, or both? As you know the brakes can be applied either way. That might give a hint.

Push either one down, and it sticks down, causing the brake to drag. They pop back up of course if I hit the main brake pedal.

What I mean is what happens if you pull them up? Like with your hand. That will operate the brake also. Do they stick when you do that? They operate with a horizontal bar inside the drum which cams the end of the shoe assembly. I think the bar is going too far and wedging on the end of the shoe; then when you hit the main pedal it pops off and frees itself. If it only does it one way, like not when pulled up, that will be good hint. Probably linkage lets the individual ones go a little too far, allowing it to wedge. If so, adjust the linkage (inboard of drum and front of axle) and try that.

OK. But if my theory is right, you might correct it outside the drum by adjusting the linkage for the individual arms? You didn't say if you have the wheels still off or not, and if they are on the tractor you might save some time and effort by just adjusting the linkage. I'm thinking the throw is too long on the individual pedals. But if it is a wear issue with the horizontal bar inside the drum, that's a different story and you will have to go inside of course. It's all theory....
