I am looking at purchasing a '59 35 Special (gas).
Owner wants $3750. Paint is faded. Tires are very good, practically new. Comes with a draw bar and front bumper. Has a Brillion 5' mower (Brush Hog type). Seems to run good. Doesn't smoke. Just tuned up. Lights don't work. There is cracking around the outside lip of a rear rim from rust. Fenders are a rusted near the axle. I am no expert, just need some advise. Is the price in the ballpark?

I think the TO35 Deluxe might be worth close to what your seller is asking, but the Special is usually not worth that much unless in super condition throughout. It really is just a slightly stronger TO30, while the Deluxe is a different tractor feature-wise.

I think that the price may be a little on the high side. I have three TO35s and place the value of a good running gas model with new tires closer to $3000. It sound like it needs a little cosmetic work and paint which I think would value the machine at what it is priced at now.

I purchased a 1957 TO-35 Deluxe about 18 mos. ago.
It came with a loader, disc, blade, and fork. The
tires were fair; the paint was less than fair;
starts right up & runs well; the brakes were
non-existent (former owner used to drop the disc
to stop!)- actually the brake shoes & drums just
needed a thorough cleaning and adjusting; the
hydraulics were
operational but need some work; power steering was
not working. I paid $2500 here in CA. All things
considedred, I'm pleased with the purchase. It's
my first tractor and so far, it's been a great
learning experience. Although, I must say, it
sure has a way of using up a good deal of my time
and money. But, those two are always in short
supply. So what the heck- if not that than
something else...Wishing you the best of luck and
