I just bought a TO-20. The 3 point system isn't working. Everything is in the totally down position. The guy I got it from claims it worked fine last fall when he quit using it. Any suggestions on where I should start to figure out the problem? Thanks for any help!

Hi Mike: Before you start to disassemble anything, do a few simple checks. 1) is the transmission oil up--the dip stick is on the right side below the seat, in front of the axle. It may be worth trying to adjust the lift quadrant (finger tip control), also on the right hand side. If you don't have one, it would be great to have a manual. Original reproduction shop manuals are available from Massey Ferguson or through links to the left of this forum. You may have to start pulling things apart, but do a search of this forum beforehand, as there have been a lot of posts about the hydraulic system and being styuck in either the "down or the up" position. Good luck, David, MI

Mike,
This may sound silly, but, do you have the PTO lever engaged? Have the tractor running, put it in neutral, and then you will find a lever on the the left side on the transmission housing down by your shoe, you have to push in the clutch, and move the lever up or down, (can't remember) and then let out the clutch, and then the pto will begin to turn. Once the PTO is engaged, then move the lever to raise the 3-point
hitch. Does it move? if so, great, if not, do a search on this site, and you will have to do further surgery on the housing of the transmission to see if the hydraulic pump is working. Good Luck.
G

Gary: Thanks for the feedback. Yes I had the PTO running and still no hydraulics. So I will check further. Thanks again. This forum is a nice idea.

The control fork you mention adjusts the height of the 3 point hitch through the 'drag load' that is placed on the spring assembly below the seat. This only works with a plow connected, when it is below ground level. With condensation, I have seen this fork rusted out. Even with it completly rusted, your lift arms should come up on command.
Before I would start tearing things apart, does your PTO shaft work as it should?
