TO 30 Price Opinions Requested

Found a 54 TO-30 , New paint, 3point works , PTO works, new tires, no smoke, original 6 volt, very pretty looking tractor. Heat gauge broken. Brakes a little weak. Good oil press. Gray but not Fergy gray. Asking $4700. I have 17 hillside acres to brush hog, pull trees ,plow medium sized garden , nothing commercial. I know $4700 is high, I am intersted in opinions on price. I do want to work this tractor, not look at it! Your opinions would be appreciated. thanks ! Keith Downey Muncy PA

too high... there's a circa 1970 Massey-Ferguson 135 diesel with **power steering** for $4900 at the local dealership

Wow I feel like I hit the jack-pot I bought a TEA 1959 this past Christmas for $1500 ( CANADIAN ) and it came with an original Ferguson Loader ( manure ) forks , and bucket. also with a set of winter chains. It runs like a top. Never had so much fun in my life with this tractor.

Keith: I just looked at a great TO-30 today. Seemed pretty original, great shape, excellent sheet metal, Ferguson grey--nothing obvious in need of repair...It also had the Sherman Hi-Lo--which was somewhat unusual. The dealer wanted $3,200.00. If I were you, I'd grab a trailer, drive to Michigan and pick this one up. From your description, I think this one is in better shape. If you want a number to call, let me know. I think $4,700.00 is high, unless you get all manner of implements (IMHO). David, MI

I was at an auction today, in NE Missouri. I watched a T0-30 sell for 800. It looked rough but it ran; it was said to have been idle for 6 years. The sale bill said "needs restored", but it looked like a coat of paint would go a long way. I can't say what the year was. I didn't really look at it carefully as i wasn't considering it. My impression was that the price was too low. A couple years ago I say one sell in this area between 2K and 3K.

Keith, that does seem a little high, although prices do vary greatly by regio. I paid $2800 for a 63 MF 35 with a perkins diesel in similar condition to yours last year, including a HEAVY duty rollover box scrape (nice condition) and a 6' bushog (dangerous condition)live hyd/pto is a nice bonus to slightly later model tractors, although an overunning clutch will alleviate the dangerous part of the older pto system. Price seems high to me. I think for that price or a few hundred more you can find a later model Massey Ferguson or Ford that would have live PTO and live hydraulics. That would make a much more practical working tractor. Models like the Ford 2000 or 4000 or even the 800 series. In the Massey I am not up too much on the model numbers but I know when you get into the late 50s and later they have live PTO and hudraulics.
Take your time and do a little shopping.

Guys: I just found out i need a block for my t0-30, what is a good price to pay and where do you think I will find one? Oh, I paid $3200 for mine, in good shape (except for a leaky radiator, which caused the overheating) with a trip-loader and back blade a couple of years ago.

I bought mine for $2k, with a two bottom plow; I was running it home in high gear and when I started it up again it wouldn't run without the choke full out. I thought the carb was dirty--WRONG!!! I found that the gas tank was full of nuts bolts and washers. The sediment bowl gas tank strainer was rotted out and awfull dirty. I washed the tank out and easily 5 oz of dirt, rust and glop came with it. I think that the e3ngine was set-up at one time and when I couldn't run it it set up again, and this time I had the head rebuilt (to the tune of $280 plus gasket set)
