Radiator shroud

My TO30 is running hot. I have checked the thermostat and waterpump. Both seem to be working.

I am thinking that it may be that the fan is so far back from the radiator that with the shroud missing, it is just sucking air from the sides and not through the radiator.

Is anyone out there running okay without the radiator shroud?

Does anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks for your help.

I think the shroud is important, but probably not the problem. Value Built can be found on the web as FarmandCountry.com, but just call them. They know their stuff.

My TO-30 ran hot until I backflushed the radiator. Runs right in the green zone now!

You might try cleaning the radiator fins with compressed air or a garden hose. They get plugged up with grass and seeds. This should be part of your regular maintance like changing the oil.

Thanks for the advice, I hooked up my compressor and did get alot of debri out of the fins, this however has not stopped the problem.

I am guessing that it may be the water pump.

I'm not running without a shroud, but I doubt that is your problem. Could the thermostat be backwards? If you haven't tried this, pull the thermostat entirely and see what happens.

Phil, I think that you are right, the shroud is not the solution. I pulled the thermostat, tested it and put it back in correctly. The tractor will run for 15 minutes and then shut down.

My next guess is that it must be the water pump. It seems however, that everything is getting hot (radiator hose, radiator and bottom hose). Which I would assume means I am getting circulation and that the pump is working. What do you think? Any ideas?

Mike, You should be able to see the water circulating in the radiator after the thermostat opens. That is if you don't have too much water in it. If the coolant just covers the cores you can see the movement if the water pump is working. I never had a waterpump fail in that way except on an old car I had and it had fiber pump blades and it broke in half. While you are looking into the radiator watch for bubbles as that is a sign of a cracked head or bad head gasket. That will also cause overheating.
