i have a ferguson tractor that i am extremely partial to and it has become a work horse for me. i'm not sure what year it is. i was told it may be a 50ish model. it maybe a t-20 or t-30. i recently had to remove and clean my starter because it was sticking. now, that may be a whole other problem. i ended up having to remove the distributor in order to get the starter out. needless to say i got it back in and the timing set as well as i could set it. the problem i'm writing about is that since the starter repair and removal/replacement of the distributor i have been experiencing the tractor running considerably hotter even to the point of the manifold glowing so hot that it boils my fuel in the gas tank. someone told me that the timing was either too far advanced or retarded and the gas wasn't being totally burned in the combustion chamber, thereby leaving some gas left to finish burning in the manifold. is this possible? and how do i remedy it?

thanks for any help/advice.

Try advancing ar retarding the timing a bit to see if it helps the red hot manifold problem.

I'd suggest that you first try enriching your fuel mixture. An overly lean mixture will cause the engine to run VERY HOT! Good luck!
