TEA-20 Starter needed!

I had the bendix drive break on my starter. Trying to procure the part locally, but in the meantime, does anyone have a starter for sale? The number on this Lucas starter is 25519E. It is a 6 Volt unit, but I would like to know if there is a 12 Volt unit that would fit.

If you will look at your starter more closely, you should find another number, probably M418G, stamped into it.If it is a M418G, this starter is used on lots of European cars, such as Triumph,
Land Rover,and you may be able to find parts at a Land Rover dealer.Take your old parts with you though, cause it will take some searching.Start with the 1965 or so models.

You do not have to find a drive for a Lucas starter. The Delco-Remy starters used on the TO-20's will work on the TE model and its seems to be a lot more avaliable in the catalogs. As far as 12V, a 6V starter will work fine with a 12V system as long as you do not turn the starter for long periods of time so that it heats up excessively. If you decide to stay with a 6V system, one thing I found that made a tremendous difference in how well the starter works was the battery cables. When I bought my TO-20 it had 12V cables on it and the starter really dragged. I replaced them with the larger 6V cables and now the starter really cranks the engine and it starts much faster than before.

You can convert to a Delco, but it requires changing the flywheel. So, unless you want to split your tractor in half, I'd suggest trying to find a Lucas replacent. I had to replace mine recently and found a replacement thru Pittsburg Tractor Parts in Texas. Here is their website.
