Thanks to all who suggested solutions. I'll certainly try the simple things first. Several suggestions have mentioned cleaning the sediment bowl. How is the sediment bowl removed? Any special tricks? Do I have to drain the gas tank first? Should I disconnect and clean the line the whole way up through to the carb? Thanks in advance for the additional help.

Yes drain the tank I usually drain through the carb drain, after it is out of gas remove the fuel line and unscrew the whole sediment bowl assembly from the tank you will see right away how the dirt and crud block the screen up. Clean it up all good and you should be ok. It may look like you have good fuel flow but when tractor is running it needs a steady stream to keep fuel in carburetor. There is an old trick to get dirt out of a carburetor it is just shut off fuel supply to carb and just as engine starts to die out from lack of fuel open throttle full the result is the engine vacumn will suck out small particles of dirt this was used on the old holley two barrels and other carbs should work on a ferguson.
