TE 20 engine probs?

I have a 49 TE 20. Have had it for 3 years now and it has been a workhorse. I use it to finish mow about 4 acres of grass at the house. This spring it seems to be losing power and sputtering (missing) after about 30-40 minutes of mowing. Replaced the plugs, they weren't too fouled but hadn't replaced since I bought it and that didn't help. Getting more smoke than I remember coming out of "blow-by" at top of valve cover. Also getting noticeable condensation dripping from "blow-by". Had someone take a look at it when it was acting up and he thought it might be rings (with the amt of smoke coming out of blow-by). Any ideas or personal experiences?

Any water in oil or oil in radiator(head gasket) also try a compression test it could be as simple as valve adjustment or a head gasket. The key is you are working engine pretty hard when it starts missing also maybe your gas line is to close to exhaust. If you need a shop manual email me I have one and also operators manual to sell. Just a few ideas to check.

Keith,

Sounds a lot like what is happening to my TO-30. I run it for approx 1 hour and it starts missing eraticaly. However, I have no smoke or condensation coming out of the blow-by. I replaced almost the entire firing mechanism, one by one, with no effect.

See my post about 5 or 6 posts down the message board. Dennis had some very good ideas about what mine could be (have not had a chance to investigate further).
