Is it normal to have a small Hyd. leak from the PTO shaft? I have replaced the shaft and seal and still have a steady but small leak while hooked up to my rotary cutter and the cap is not on the PTO hook-up. Is a seal rebuild in order?
Oh Ya my tractor is a TO 20.
TIA
Jack

Jack, I am a nut about leaks. You said you replaced the seal? The only places it can be leaking is: The gasket that seals the pto assembly. The four bolts that hold it in place. ( they go through the housing and if one is loose especially went running an implement it may vibrate enough to leak past the threads.

The oil seal around the shaft and bearing.
Is the bearing ok?

I have two tea's and they don't leak. I have installed seals and had good luck with silicone gasket sealer for the flange gasket.

One last thought. Could the "oil" be from grease leaking from an overrun coupling if your using one?

Hope it helps and good luck,
The leak fanatic
Joe

Hey Joe,
Thanks for the reply! I replaced the shaft and bearing in one step. Actually I upgraded the shaft so i diddn't need an adapter. The leak is from the bearing, so ya think i need to repalce a seal? I'll give that a try! Oh Ya I use an over-ride coupler...ever put the wrong size roll pin in one and backed-up using a bush-hog? Made a beliver out of me!
Thanks Again Joe!
Jack
