Hyd pump control valve TEA-20

I was changing the hydraulic fluid and removed the lift cover to clean out the sediment in the housing. When finishing up I noticed that the bushing for the oscillating control valve assembly was sticking out of the pump housing.
The control valve was missing the clip that holds the guide rod on. The bushing should be held with a retaining washer. The bolt with a washer was there but it didn't retain the bushing. The system was working fine before cleaning. I think it was in this condition before I removed the control fork.

Question: do I pull the pump and assemble the valve as per the manual or let it go. Not sure this wasn't done on purpose. Will I have problems with the control valve sticking if I don't reassemble? Only had this tractor a bit so I don't have a history on it. Not sure what previous owner did. Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks for any advise,
Joe in NY

I had a similar problem with the hyd pump on my TEA20, 3pth would go up but not down. Drained oil, all 5 gallons, removed the pump and discovered that there was no valve in the pump at all! After having done this job I've decided that this was a job that I only wanted to do once!! All things considered I believe that you might as well go ahead and pull the pump, and carry out the repairs that are required. You'd be very upset with yourself if you put it all back together and a few hours down the road it stopped working... Nuf said!

Good Luck!

Bernie, Yea, your right and thats what I did after thinking about it all night. Glad I did too because I found the bushing was OK just the ossilator rod was disconnected from the control valve. The clip came off and was on the shaft. @ minutes to fix.

I did have a lower link stud on the axel housing leaking. While I had the pto shaft out I was able to see it had been sheared off. Removed it too and machined a new stud. It was on the right side so the ring gear was not in the way and I didn't have to pull the axle housing. SOOOO I'm very happy the valve needed repair cause I killed 2 birds with one stone.

It was a GOOD night.

Thanks for your reply,
Joe
