PTO Pump TO20

My lift stopped working one very cold winter morning. I think water in the lift oil froze. Heard a click/snap sound. I removed the pump to find shattered brass pieces from the yoke type pump. I replaced all the inside parts (yokes,pins, springs,etc.)into the old pump "box". Engaged the system and heard the same click/snap. I'm pretty sure I'll find the same mess. Any ideas as to what I missed?

The brass pieces were the bushes inside the pistons. If there is water in the oil then it will freeze, what you have to do is stop it going in again or it will repeat this. Fit a new rubber boot on the bottom of the gear lever and a new seal on the Draft Spring at the back of the seat, in the meantime keep it covered up with some waterproof sheet until you have time to do it. It's funny that you should say this as twice in the last couple of days I have had emails from guys like yourself who have rebuilt their Pumps and have had problems with them that they wont turn or won't go together. Some info that one guy said was that when he checked the new parts they were poorly finished with very rough edges etc. and he thought that this was the problem as they were nothing like the Ferguson parts he removed. He got these parts replaced with spares from another supplier and they were the same, the only one he hadn't tried was Sparex, maybe you should try them as I haven't heard any bad reports about the spares they sell, they make most of their own. Use the correct oil, GL1-90W mineral oil or multi-grade 15W/40, not hydraulic oil or gear oil, the oil should be as thick as engine oil.If I can help email me....John

Just a shot in the dark here but, could your PTO shaft be bent/twisted? If its flopping around in there it could bind the pump parts. Jack
