TO-20 temperature gauge

I have seen in a Ferguson parts book a listing for a temperature gauge for the TO-20, but I have never been able to find either a photo or a drawing which showed one. Did they actually exist? What did they look like. My TO-20 must have had a gauge at some time in its life, as there are clips under some of the head bolt nuts, and a cut off stump in the thermostat housing.

Thanks for all your help in getting this old grey Fergie as cleaned up as it now is.

If you are here in Oz, I assume you have a TEA20?

Is your water temp gauge the same as the gauge numbered "3" in my post above? (That image is straight from the BareCo web site. I have the same temp gauge.)

Remove the brass plug and the BareCo sender unit should screw straight into the plugged hole in the thermostat housing, above the water pump. Use that white plumbers tape on all screw joints.

If not, you should be able to get a brass adaptor from an auto parts or plumbing supplier.

I'll get back here about the gauge, but as we now are on weeders....It is an MKO-21 Folding Weeder. the MKO-20 was the NON-Folding (which I'm not sure I've seen). I got it when I got the TO-20. The seller said, "Hey, if you want that thing you can have it. It's a little bent up. My son backed into it with another tractor. We got it when we bought the tractor from the owner a few years ago." At that time I knew nothing about tractors or implements, so (fortunately) I said I'd take it and see about fixing it up later. It took a bit of work, but the hard part was the long wait for some of the tines to show up for sale, so I could complete rebuilding it.

Well, another day - and again I've learned something new on this forum!! :lol:
John. Farnsworth's book lists the weeder as M-KE-A21 Weeder, which is obviously the "E" for England equivalent. Same implement?

With the ten year drought here in the Aussie Outback, the ground is so hard and cracked even a D9 and rippers makes heavy going of it! And every weed becomes cattle or kangaroo fodder as soon as it shows it's tips above ground!

Jeff. I'm with you on those gauges. The gauge in the image above is only marginally more useful than an ash tray on a motor bike!!!

My Jag XKE has a Smith's electric Temp Gauge and the arc is less than 90 degrees, from cold to hot. I had a temp problem with the Jag (until I fitted an 18" electric fan) and found it almost impossible to accurately read the temp gauge, versus the thermostat opening temp of 76 degrees Celsius. I'm looking for a set of later Jag gauges, with arcs of around 300 degrees on all gauges.

Now that I have totally taken over your thread for finger weeder pictures... I put in my 2 cents on the temp guage.

I picked up a really nice one from Agco heritage parts.

Sold constantly on E-bay under. Never pay mor than opening bid as he rugularly puts them up. listed under: New Massey Ferguson Temperature Gauge 30v3485587 <--- that is the MF heritage parts number...

I like this one as it has a scale and not just the color bars as the one Bob shows. The color bars is what the MF65 and later had. (I like numbers.... must be an engineer thing.)

Only issue I've had is I cannot install the dern thing... The tap threads on the fitting and the water neck are slightly off. I and incert it 1 1/2 turns before it binds up. I have tried two different water necks...

I need to get my buddy in the shops to get an accurate thread measurement for me before I go forward.

Even though I cannot use it... yet. I still like it best. I will get it installed. eventually.

Steve, if you are not particular about the black background, I found a Ford NAA temp. guage is an exact fit for the TO-20 and the capilaary tubing is a nice length to reach the probe port on the coolant manifold.

Incidentally, a really great looking Fergy which I'm sure you are proud of!!! What is that hanging off the 3 point linkage?

And I like your trailer - perfect for both my TEA20 and my Jag XKE. Just as well you're not in Australia or I'd want to borrow it!!! :lol: :lol:

Bob that is a Ferguson Finger Weeder. The out-riggers will fold out and you drive along and the weeds are gently flicked out of the ground.

Impressive items.

It may also be Harry's version of an Iron Maiden. :-)

If the TO20 was equipped the same as the TEA20, they did not come from the factory, standard, with a temperature gauge.
The TEA20 had a white face oil pressure gauge on the right side of the panel, and a domed blanking cap over a 2" gauge hole on the left side of the panel.

It frustrates me that I have never been able to find a white faced temperature gauge to identically match the white faced oil gauge in my TEA20!!
Most of the Ferguson after market parts suppliers sell this 2 inch temperature gauge (Item 3) for the TE/TEA20:

In the TEA20, the sender unit screws in below the thermostat in the thermostat housing.

The part numbers (for the TEA/TEF20) are:

M-F: 180727M91, 881396M91

Sparex: S.4341

Bareco: B3834

Interestingly, this site and other Ferguson specific parts suppliers do not appear to list a temperature gauge specifically for the TO20???? I've never seen a TO20 - I wonder if that is because there is no provision for a temperature gauge, either in the dash panel or for the sender unit?

I am looking for an adaptor to fit the temperature sender to the thermostat housing for the aftermarket temperature gauge kit that I bought from BARCO Melbourne. Any suppliers?

A TO 20 is the same as a TE20 only it was built in Detroit and not Coventry. A Ferguson weeder, the very first implement that I built as I started work as an apprentice, all 72 tines have to be fitted when it is delivered.
Petrol tractors did not normally have a temperature gauge fitted, only the TVO and Zero Octane engines had them as standard, of course it was found to be very useful when the tractors went to tropical climates and I think that they were offered as an option on the Detroit TO20 Tractors but not Coventry petrol tractors. TO30's seem to have had them as standard.
