On a MF 35 when you are setting still and turn the front wheels, there is a whining noise from the power steering )probably moving also, but can't hear it). It's not real bad, and the wheels turn real east...is this normal?

Also, when you raise the three point hitch it is jerky (kind of chatters). It comes right up but it's not smooth. Is this normal...and if not how bad is it?

The power steering can often make a noise and the fact that you are standing and turning the wheel means that the load is at its highest, you should avoid turning the wheel when stationary as it imposes unnecessary loads on the steering, just the same with a car or truck. The reason you can't hear it when you are driving is that there is very little load on the steering, so very little noise. It is just the oil escaping through the control valve in the steering box.
If the hydraulics are jerking when lifting, it is either the oil level low or there is a blown "O" ring on one of the side chambers so the Pump isn't running on all four cylinders....John

Hello,
You say your to-35 has a whine in the power steering somewhere. Can you tell me if the tractor had the power steering added or was it originally on the tractor.
Thanks,

Denny

It's on one I'm thinking of buying...and it's a factory unit. When you're sitting still it's the sound one makes when you turned to far, but not that loud.
