Is there an cross reference for engine serial # and model # / serial # for Ferguson tractors? I have an old Ferguson with a Continental Z129 368078 engine but somewhere along the line the tractor serial plate was removed. I'd like to find out the model/year/serial#. it has to-3551 on th eside of the steering column. Thanks

Steve, Bob (Aust) is correct in what he said. As Jim in Oh adds this number is very close usually plus or minus 500. This is because the engines were made in Muskegon, Mi. and shipped to Detroit, Mi. and they were not kept in any numerical order. they were put on the assembly floor and someone would just grab an engine and install it in the next unit coming down the line. Most tractor Serial and Engine serial numbers that I have noticed are correct to what Jim says + - 500. However in my case that doesn't hold true the eng. sn. # is 379048 minus the 240000 = 139048 and my tractor serial number is 137777 which is a difference of 1271. It is possible engine was replaced. Do I care? No not as long as there is no positive way to absolutely say that eng. doesn't belong in that tractor. I think what you needed to know was what model and in a very few cases what year so you could order parts if that problem ever comes up for you. I have a Ferguson and that was all I cared about. I figure mine was probably built in the last 2 weeks of TO 30 production. If this is your first Fergie welcome aboard. Richard

Jim in OH has a graph that relates engine number to approximate tractor Serial Number. It was on here a few months ago, tried to search for the graph but couldn't find the thread.

I found this posts in response to another user's question:

If your engine is a Continental serial number Z129 368078, the tractor serial number may be around 128079 (engine 368079 - 240000), making it a 1954 TO30, the last year they were produced?

You got it right.... there is a nice figure somewhere but you don't need it... I will repeat the story though.. It is my understanding the tractors were made serially, but the engines were brought to the floor by lots of many hundreds then randomly selected to be put in the tractors... so the method is not perfect, but close enough.. probably within plus or minus 500 or less... good enough to find year unless you are right at the crossover...

Thanks guys. you are absolutly right, I only needed to confirm the model number for parts ordering. The year would be a bonus. So to start with, 1954 TO30 is good. I've had this tractor about 15 years and never needed any parts. Don't use it all that much but will be using it more in the future so wanted to get it in good running order. Thanks again for all the help.
