I Just purchased a 12 volt conversion kit for my TO30 available from YT. everything seems in order except for the pulley that came on the alternator, seems to be for a smaller belt than is on the tractor and wont work right, is there a different pulley? or a smaller belt that would also work on the wider fan/drive pulleys. The diameter of the pulley is also smaller, but that is understandable because of the switch from gen. to alt. to allow clearance etc. Any Thoughts? thanks

Chris, I just purchased the same kit from here last week and should be at the house on Tues or Wed. the picture on the site looks like the alt has a wide belt. The guy on the phone didnt know too much. Guess mine will be the same, darn. Will let you know.

Auto parts store won't have a clue. Needs to be an auto electric shop.

I would think that any good auto electric shop would have a pulley that would work for you laying around. They might even make a swap with you.

Unless that alternator is something unusual, the pulley off your genny will fit right on it. Mine did. Rant..... .If the danged thing was supposed to work on there, why would it have the wrong pulley on it in the first place. They should know full well that its supposed to have that wide one. And if they don't know, THEY OUGHT TO!!

I"m running one with a mismatched pulley without any problems using a small belt but I am planning to replace it with the correct pulley as soon as time permits.

My local auto electric shop was able to supply a small diameter pulley for the 5/8" wide belt on my JD 4020. You need that. They did have to order it.

You may still need a longer fan belt.

I am not familiar with the kit you refer to but I have seen this before on the Ford's. The pulley needs to allow the same width belt as original to be used. Changing to a narrower belt can allow the water pump pulley to slip resulting in a tractor that overheats. Pulleys are available for the original belt width, I recommend contacting your seller and discussing options.
