I just bought a tachometer for my TO-20 from Northern Tools. Easy to install, but wondering about the "spark plug firing revolution setting." Does the spark plus fire twice per revolution, once per revolution or every other revolution? This setting determines the rpms. What should the actual rpm be at idle and mid-throttle? I"m getting high numbers with this tachometer. Thanks for setting me straight.

Four cycle engine fires once every other revolution (except some 2 cylinder JD and my Ford Triton V-8 that fire once per revolution).

But with four cylinders you have four total sparks in two revolutions.

Idle ought to be 450 to 600 RPM. Full speed no load 2200 rpm.
