My next project is going to be putting my (bought for parts) TO 30 together just to hear her run.
Currently it has the original starter button mounted on side of battery tray..I want to put it back on the tranny where it"s supposed to be.
BUT-I looked in with a mirror and the straight bar the connects button to gear shift lever is gone. Both the receiving ends still have the connecting pin and cotter pin installed. I need to know the dimensions of the missing linkage.
Mostly need correct length to activate starter button correctly.
THanks a bunch. Mark

I'll put a photo under "Parts and Pieces" gallery. Look for AussieDoc. It shows the rod your talking about. The photo is taken from above where the steering box was removed.

Another way of getting to it is to remove the steering box and come in from the top. But I reckon I'd stick with the solenoid set up.

I think you may find that the bar you think is missing is hanging down inside, this is what usually happens, they drop the switch end and rather than take the engine out to retrieve it they fit a solenoid. You may be able to get it if you "fish" for it with a long wire. All this is unless you already have the engine out and know for certain that the rod has gone....John
PS is that picture you have on here, one of a TE series switch, as it looks just like it, the TO type is different.

Unfortunately, I looked back with a small mirror and all that is there is the rod with the middle cut out and the holes for the pivot pit. I did push on the gear shift into the "start" area and this rod did pull back. Soooo, the linkage is not there. I was hoping it was hanging and I would work on pulling it back up and connecting--much easier than locating AND tearing tractor in 1/2 just to reinstall.
THanks, Mark

I'm startin' to think that it doesn't look TOO bad mounted to the side of the battery tray.
Ha Ha Ha Ha
Maybe I'll mount it on the foot rest and just step on it everytime I push the gear shift lever up into "S"...Hmmmm, now thats an idea.
Thanks fellas, Mark

Some "gentleman" has obviously had the Tractor apart and removed the rod, Lord knows why he would do that...but some people do strange things. There is nothing in the manual indicating the length of that rod, do you know of a wreckers yard that may have one or have a Transmission complete and taken the engine out, you may be able to get one from there. I hope that you get it sorted....John

DO you have a parts book? I think you are talking about item 30. PN 181 682 M1 Link, Starter Switch.

From the parts book picture it looks to be a spring with looped ends for a TO-30.

I think you are talking about the part the rope is tied to? Yes?
