I recently acquired over 70 old scrapbook pictures. Nearly all of them were taken on a farm in central Wisconsin. The ones that are dated are mostly from the late 1920�s. I have uploaded 6 of them to the Vintage Photos section on this website under Fergie Flyer. These pictures represent the transitional era when farmers used horses, steam and internal combustion together. Just thought that some of you might find them interesting. Those photos sure bring back memories! At 82 years old I can still recall those " modern tools". I especially rember the spring job of hauling away those big winter manure piles one fork full at a time and the excitement of the arrival of the the threshing crew. I used to hate it when my mother would send me to the garden to pick peas to feed that crew before I could go to watch all the activity. At fourteen I was allowed to go on the crew as a spike pitcher helping to load the oat shocks. Oh that food! And my first taste of beer.

In today's politically correct world, I wonder how the Workplace Health and Safety Inspectors would take to that long drive belt in the photo: "Threshing With Steam, Central WI"

Bob, your comments are right on. I few weeks ago I posted some comments related to a BUZZ SAW, in which I stated, how I had spent time around a 32" Bell threshing machine. It was driven also by a long belt but powered by a M.M. model U. Us kids were taught to stay away from spinie things.....
But the health boys were not there to protect me from the barley dust....choke choke.....

Thanks for sharing those photos of a way of life that has all but vanished. I recall pitching pundles of oats into a threshming machine as a kid back about the time that combines were fasting coming to the forefront of farm grain harvesting.

Very nice photos.
It was certainly a different world in 1927. Imagine the expense involved in having such "modern" machinery. Imagine what the neighbours were saying and the increase in productive output.
But....then the depression years...then recovery years...then WW2. A never ending cycle. I hear things are getting tough over there again.
