Stripped bolt holes

When installing a new oil pan I ran into several bolt holes that had been stripped out so that I can't torque the bolts properly. Of course, they are the ones that are the most difficult to access. Other than drilling out and re-tapping the holes for a larger bolt, does anyone have any suggestions that would work for this? How about one of those epoxy products that claim to harden enough that it can be drilled and tapped?

Helicoils are the way to go. I use them often. Ask around you may be able to borrow a heli-tap and installation tool.

John, bummer on the stripped holes. Let us know how the helicoils work out. I've used them a couple times for stripped spark plug ports on aluminum heads... a big $$$ savings. A metal re-enforced epoxy, there are several brands out there, should indeed work, it can be drilled & tapped. Have to make sure the hole is super clean with solvent to get a good bond. I've used that before too.

Try an industrial fastener supply house, we have a store around called Fastenal that carries them along with a lot of hard to find fastener, spring clips and gasket material.

Thanks. I found some on line. Best price was at Amazon.com. About $10 cheaper than Ace Hardware and other places. I'm hoping this will make my life so much easier.

That was exactly what I was thinking about but couldn't remember what it was called. I asked at a couple of auto parts places but they had never heard of such a thing. Do you know who carries them?
