Well the weather got me again and things have once again slowed down. The flowers were coming out and got snowed on a bit this weekend. Next week back up to near 50 for the highs. Then we start again!
Got this Fergy with a loader going on the front. Got an original front pulley to insert the 3/4" 6 spline front pump driveshaft into. Got the front pump on the Dearborn loader I borrowed from a 9N that I sold. I need ideas on how to raise the tilt hood with the drive shaft installed??
No, gouging a giant hole in the new Noltes grill is not an option. I have a few ideas but not real happy with any of them. This "Fractor will have an electric fuel gauge hooked up to minimize the hood raising.

I think the best option is to get an old hood and grill to use for this tractor as long as you have the loader on it. Store your good one. Then cut the old one where the grill meets the hood and install spring loaded latches. Once everything is buttoned down it will be tight enough. Then when you need to you can remove the hood completely off the tractor for service. The grill will stay in place. Also, cut holes in the hood for access to the fuel cap and radiator cap so you don't have to remove it for that purpose. I've got one like that, and it works fine.

You"ll propbably have to opt for a pto driven pump anless you want to contrive a fancy bunch of linkage to fold your grill out of the way when you lift the hood ti fill the gas or check the radiator. Another option is to cut holes in the sheet metal and install a door(s) to give access to the rad and the gas tank.

Bruce, Your options are pretty short. If you wish to maintain the integrity of your hood & grill, you will need to run the hydraulic from a PTO mounted pump, sling a belt driven pump on the engine, or use the internal hydraulics from the tranny. If your not planning to use the PTO much, a rear mounted pump is probably the easiest solution. I had the exact same issue, was not willing to cut into my sheet metal, not willing to tie-up my PTO shaft with a loader pump, was not willing to spend the $$$ to install a belt driven pump, and not willing to chain down the 3 point lift to run the loader from the internal hydraulics, ended-up selling my loader. If you go over to the N forum, look-up Zane, he sells a "live hydraulic" set-up for the N & TO which is basically a belt driven hydraulic pump. He can probably fix you up if you want to spend the $$$ to go that route.

George

This comes up quite often and I would be interested to know how you carry it out, it will be useful for others with the same problem..John

Hi John! Looks like that mounting the engine pump might be my option. Now to investigate the cost and take some measurments. I had thought of incorporating a flip up hood such as a 9N but did not want to disturb the clean hood lines with a flip lid 1/2 way down the hood instead of being near the back such as a 9N. I am currently considering a quick removable mount for the front pump and then to slide the shaft out. However, I do not believe the hoses that connect to the pump are not quite pliable enough to accomplish this.
I will be back with progress updates!

Mounted a Dearborn loader on my TO30 and used the internal hydraulics to operate the loader. Not wanting to cut up the original hood I just removed it.

I am now retired and no longer have the tractor.
