Can any one tell me which Pertronix ignitor I would order for a TEA 2085 with 12 volt negative ground?

I am getting tired of finding my points with no gap and the engine running rough.

Regards
Boyde

if you have a TEA20, Lucas D3A4 distributor and negative (-) earth, the Petronix Igniter is Part No LU-145.

As John said, there are different Igniters for negative (-) and positive (+) earth. Reversing the Igniter polarity will fry the unit.

I also bought the Petronix 40 KV coil.

Best investment I ever made!!!!!

I agree, Bob. I also bought the coil. Tractor starts easy and runs very strong with this mod. Well worth the money!

Do as Dennis says and contact Carl with the number of the Distributor, it is on the oval plate riveted to the side of the Distributor bowl, it will begin with D3A4 or something like that, depending on which one is fitted. He will also want to know if you tractor is positive or negative ground, (they are different ignitors) if you have an Alternator it will be Negative ground if it has a Generator it should be Positive ground but do check it as a lot of folk fit the battery incorrectly....If you haven't already moved the ground lead from the back of the dash, fit a longer heavier one that attachs to the Tractor frame close to the Starter. Fitting the electronic ignition will make a big difference to your engine IF everything is set correctly, don't expect it to work miracles though if the engine isn't adjusted correctly on everything else...John

PS Usual cause of the points giving trouble like you have is lack of lube on the cam and heel of the points and it will wear the heel away so the points close up, if the points are pitted badly then the condenser is often to blame. If the tractor is wired negative ground and you don't have an Alternator that is another reason that it will run rough. Tractors without Alternators should always be Positive ground.

Yes. Email Carl Dudash at [email protected].
He will need your distributor number and the ground type for your tractor.
I put one on my TE 20 and it really is great.
It cost c. $93 USD.
Let us know how this works out for you.
Dennis
