TO-20 Electrical System

I have had the task bestowed upon me to straighten out the wiring system on a TO-20 that has been given to our church to auction off. The tractor has been converted to 12 volts but not a real good job in that the switch has to be left in certain position to keep from draining the battery and so on. Does anyone have a circuit diagram of the key switch so I can get started on this thing. A complete wiring diagram would be an unbelievable blessing and deeply appreciated. Let me know if there is a web site I should go to or something. I searched the forum archives and found nothing on this so any help is appreciated.

You didn't say if the conversion was done with a generator or alternator. If it is an alternator the battery drain problem is probably caused by current feeding back through the alternator. You need to put a diode in the line between the switch and the alternator.

I checked all the 12V conversion articles and couldn't find any diode reference. My TO-30 has a 12V alternator system and it does drain the battery. Do you know what size diode or perhaps a part#? Thanks.

I found an article on the links page of Genessee site which you can find under parts suppliers on this page. I have attempted to put the link in this reply. The article is for an 8N but you will get the idea. There are two diagrams. The second one shows a diode.

Yeah I figure that to be the issue but I wanted to know what had originally hooked up to what. This thing has been completely rewired and not necessarily to orignal spec's. It has a Delco 10SI three wire alternator so it should be fairly simple to wire. Y'all have been wonderful with the support.
