T035 hydraulic control valve is slow

I rebuilt the hydraulic pump on my to35 and the 1st time I tested it, it didn't stop at the top of the raise stroke, and busted the top cover on the tractor. I got a different cover, and after I adjusted the controls on the cover, I decided the check the control valve on the pump before I put the cover back on. When I moved the control valve linkage to the rear it just stayed there and didn't pull back in (it is a brand new valve). I started the tractor and let it run for about 15 min to warm up the oil, ( it was about 45 degrees in the shop)then timed it. It took about 9 seconds for the valve to return to the closed position I tried it several times with the same results. Any ideas as to why it is so slow in returning to the closed position, and could this have caused it to break the top cover on my tractor because it was too slow in closing the control valve and the safety valve didn't blow?

I did the dame exact thing a couple of years ago when I replaced the lift cylinder, one of the linkage arms was in the wrong position and opened the control valve as far as it would go. My reliefe valve was fine. You can cause too much pressure with very thick GL1 and break the cover. I have switched to 15W 40 due to the hot conditions down here. The GL1 would get so thin during the hot part of the summer that it wouldn"t lift heavy implements high ehough and I had to constantly adjust the "stop" on the lift. It also doesn"t get as thick during the winter, thus the lift works much faster when cold. It is also possible you have some debris in the control valve from changing out the pump. You can really stir up a lot of crud when cleaning out the botom of a Fergy. Try letting the tractor sit in a warmer area or in the sun for a while and see if that does any good.
