Can a T0-30 handle a 3-bottom plow???

A few years ago a Massey Ferguson 8280 225hp won the plowing contest in Europe, it pulled 17 bottoms at about 6 to 8 mph. That was about 13 hp per bottom, so that gives you something to judge other tractors by. Can't say if they were 14" or not, but not 12" .

All things being equal 1 plow requires 10-12 drawbar HP minimun with a 14-16" plow. A 31 drawbar hp International pulled 3-14" easily about 5 mph. A TE-20 Furguson pulled 2 16" at about 3.5 mph. A TO-30 had a couple more HP than the TE-20 had, so 3-12" would be the max. 2-16" would have about the same coverage 32" versus 36" for 3-12" . 2-14" would be a light load on either Ferguson. But if you only have a few acres, why stress the tractor buying a bigger plow.

when growing up on our farm we had a TO 30 with a 2-14 bottom plow and we could plow very easy with it of course we had some very nice ground and we were usually always just plowing corn ground, and it was a lot newer than it would be now. I wouldn't be afraid with a 2-14 but I wouldn't want to go any bigger especially since the tractor is like me older and don't want to work as hard. Richard

I spent a hell of a lot of time on a TO-30 pulling a 3-12 plow when I was a kid. It worked fine in all but the toughest conditions.

I have seen someone with a 2-16 plow, and it seemed to do a good job.

A lot will depend on your soil type.

I have a TO-35 with factory 3-12" plows and its a load for it as it has gotten older.

Do not think either of these tractors TO-30 or TO-35 should have ever had more than 2-14" plows.

Tractors can pull the 2-14" easier and you can go faster which will allow you to turn the dirt over better.
