My Lucas 6V starter died and the shop says it's toast. Need a replacement. The tractor is now 12V but I will take a good working 6V if you got one. It's a Z120 motor. How come the Delco Remy TO20 starters won't fit??? Thanks

The starter is available for sale on this site under Marketplace.
Perhaps it could be rewound for 12 volts?

They don't do a 12v version of that Starter, you have to get one rewound. Having said that there are thousands of these tractors that are converted to 12v but still have the 6v starter fitted, just make sure that the engine starts ok and then you don't have to wind it over too much and they are ok.The engine is turned over much faster so the starter is only in use for a very short time, just enough to spin it a couple of times...John

Why not take the starter to an auto electric shop and have it re wound they will configure for 6 or 12 volt and you get a new starter with no hassle.

A local mechanic told me to do the Delco changeover, you need to remove the ring gear from the flywheel and turn it around.
I believe there must be more to this, so I'd research it carefully.
Please let us know how you resolve this. I may have to do this someday on my TE 20.

It will fit BUT you have to grind on the noise and you might have to grind inside the bellhousing ,my dad work for a Ferguson dealer back in the 50s ,and we had a 1948 te20 and he changed this to a delco starter you will just have to do a little work and make it fit
