Spend a busy weekend with my TO30. After finding the crankshaft broken between #2 and #3 cylinder I accumulated all of the parts needed to do a mini rebuild. #3 cylinder broke when the crank slung over so I replaced it with a new oversized sleeve kit. Barely 1/8" larger in diameter to the piston I took out and works fine, smooth ruuning with no problems.

Also installed new clutch, being split it was a cheap job to do now rather than later when the old one gives up.

So the chains can come off now, snow is almost gone here in Western Massachusetts, now comes mud season and regrading the gravel (looks like dirt to me) driveway.

Keep us informed and I was sure it would work out.. I catch a lot of flack from time to time for suggesting that single cylinder overbore will not be that noticeable.. question though? did you compare th weights of the now and old piston? That could give some vibration at high rpm if you didn't match them... Jim in OH

I had a friend over giving me a hand with the overhaul and we did not get a chance to compare the weight of the two pistons. He did however, put them top to top and there was only about 1/16" difference in size between the two. At high RPM I found no noticable vibration and the tractor ran absolutely smooth. I think you were very correct in that a farmer during the 50's or later would replace/oversize what needed to be fixed rather than doing a complete rebuild for one piston.

Thanks for the encouragement. These old girls go a long time with some TLC.

Didn't get the chains off yet. 21/2 inches of snow today.

yep took my snow plow off yesterday didn't get to use it this year not much snow here NJ.but it's raining hard today
