I am having troble narrowing down my exact year model tractor. It has a ser. # that says (Ser.NG #36758). Also on the side of the rearend part of the tractor it says TO 605 HF. Any suggestions on the year model. I have got to find out cause I need to get a part for it that I am having trouble finding (just in case any one is interested in helping me on that one. A buddy of mine is calling it the shift dog, It is a peice that is in the part under the seat it bolts up to the transmission part that has the shaft coming through on the bottom. It is kindof funny shaped and has some sort of tab on the top of it that has some sort of rod attached to it about 6 or 8 inches long) any help on either of these would be very helpfull and you would have my greastest apperication.

From how you describe it, this is the sliding clutch sleeve on the PTO gearbox. This is the same on all models of TO20/30 and all the TE series. If the casting number is TO605 then it is obviously a Detroit made tractor, it will depend on the engine type as to what model it actually is. If it is a Z120 it is a TO20 if it is a Z129 it is a TO30.Casting numbers are not serial numbers, they are only part numbers for production. The only serial number for the tractor is on the plate just forward of the steering wheel, if that isn't there then there is little hope of finding out what it is...John

Matt there is one on ebay right now. check what they are saying in the Ques. & answ. area. I think it came out of a 30 and according to them the 20 and 30 are different. Good Luck Richard Ebay 120238981517

If you look on the front of the rear axle housing(trumpet housings) they often have a date cast into them, this is the date the casting was made, it would be used in production within about 3 or 4 weeks of that date normally...John

The NG# 36758 doe not sound like the tractor serial number.

The tractor SN is on a data plate that is attached to the steering column just in front of the steering wheel. it will have patent numbers etc. The SN is stamped on this plate and starts with a printed TO or TE.

That said I will assume it is missing. Please look at these items.

Do you have an external oil filter and which side of the engine is it on.

Also look at the left side of the engine in the center near the bottom there may be a number starting with the letter Z as in Z120 or Z129 etc.

Also how do you open the hood. Do you unlatch 2 handels or one lever?

Answering these questions will help narrow it down. But based on what has been provided so far it cannot be determined.

Though most likely you have a TO-20 or a TO-30. Which are very similar except for the engine.

Jeff

my wife gave me the # over the phone but she read it off the plate behind the steering wheel, There is no external oil filter and there is only one lever to open the hood.

Then it sounds like as Lance said a 1950 TO-20.

Perhaps the NG was a miss read. No. or TO.

To verify look at the engine as stated. TO-20's have the Z120 engine the TO-30 is a Z129.

I would be confident in saying you have a TO-20.

Jeff

Matt did you get that number off of the dash plate by the steering wheel shaft? I have never heard anything like Ser.NG as part of a serial number. On the serial number plate on the dash it should start with TO or TE then up to six numbers stamped into the metal. Where did you get those first numbers you posted?

Matt-
According to the "serial numbers" section of this website you have a 1950 TO20.
