This poor Fergy is put together with bailing wire and wrong parts, but the steering box has no play so I brought it home. So any help to get her running till my shop manual arrives is greatly welcomed.What is the plug gap? Where is the timing mark? What is the timing set to?

Timing marks on a TEA20-85:

Note notch in the starter motor hole/rim as per John's comment.

At TDC a 1/4" rod will slide through the hole in the block and into a corresponding hole in the fly wheel.

Points 6v set to .012" or if 12v set to .015"
plug gap depends on make of plug to be accurate, originally fitted with Champion L10 set to .030" - .032" Timing mark is on flywheel, remove starter to locate it on rim. Depends on which distributor is fitted, look on side of Distributor bowl for oval plate, if D3A4 40132 = 6 deg BTDC..if D3A4 40146 set to TDC....if it is 85mm engine with Distributor D3A440243 set to 1 deg BTDC. Always quote engine number when asking for info or parts, stamped in block between oil filler and Coil. Engine oil is SAE40 same for air cleaner unless very cold.If you want instruction Book or anymore info, email me....John

JOHN thank you for the help,my tractor has the 85mm engine w/D3A440243 dis. 12volt. timing was on but plugs were to wide. Now to find correct wire harness and plug wires for distributor with screw caps.

If you need a wiring diagram, I have one, just ask and I will send it.I don't know if I sent the plug type last time but originally it was Champion L10 but you can also use L86C and Auto-lite 425. HT leads are available from Sparex as part number S42375 and a harness is available here in the UK but I am not sure about the USA, that is why I said I have a wiring diagram if you need it....John
