LOL. Cindy, the guys have expressed all kinds of scenarios to ponder.... But I think the best thing is to wait and see what you find when you reexamine the serial number. We are eagerly waiting, as you might surmise from all the comments and guesses. To the comment about the MF25, yes, the French did make one. I have seen one at a shop in Appomattox, Va, and the mechanic was tearing out his hair trying to find parts.

Phil thank you for the MF 25 info. I did not know if that dealer knew what he was talking about so now I guess he did. Thank you Richard

Isn't the casting date shown in the diff housing, similar to the TE20/TEA20????

Why not look at the diff casting date to see what creature you have?

Richard L said: (quoted from post at 13:49:46 03/05/08) Jim in Oh did a engine number to tractor serial number graph. according to how his worked out your engine s/n 352132 then subtract 240000 the answer is very close to what the tractor s/n should be 112132.

Of course this only works if the engine had not been replaced.

Richard, I was first thinking the same thing.. maybe there was a digit dropped from the SN.. but Jeff has some other possible scenarios too... and if it was a replacement engine, who knows what the engine number means... 'course if it is a 30, there are other clues besides the TO number or the engine number... and even if it has a TO-30 frontend and a TO20 rearend, what do you callit?? (or visa versa).. :) Jim in OH

to answer your question Jim I would have called it a TO 25, that is before I saw a tractor on ebay that was only selling the head lights off the tractor and the dealer had it listed as a MF-25. So I don't have a name for a TO-30--TO-20 combination. being curious about that ebay tractor I sent a note and asked if he could tell me more about that MF 25 as I had never heard of one, his answer was he heard it was a French built MF. Though if it is a replacement engine it may never have been in a tractor before. and went straight into this one.

Jeff I must say that is something I never thought of but there remains that possibility. I can't believe there could be very many more possibilities that haven't been thought of here. Of course don't forget I HAVE BEEN WRONG BEFORE and I probably will have behind also.

LOL... This group is very creative on the possibilities of what could have happened.

When I read your previous post it kinda clicked that Jim said his chart has inconsistancies but is basically linear. Spare engiines who help account for that. I know we do it here.

Wasn't someone just saying hay the dealers would get replacement engines in for warrenty work and keep the old engine to be fixed later?

Jeff

The Tractor SN of TO-22569 is for a 1949 TO-20. The Z-129 engine was used on the TO-30.

Thus, if the tractor SN is from the aluminum data plate near the steering column. Then there are two posibilities.

1) YOu have a 1949 TO-20 with a replacement and upgraded engine.

2) You have a TO-30 with a replacement steering gear.

The Z129 engine was used on the TO-30 tractors. However, the first serial number you gave, presumably off the plate on the dash, is too low for a TO-30. Are you sure there isn"t another digit to that serial number?
