Question: Is a TO-35 gas model zi34 cannister oil filter suspose to have a spring inside cannister to press filter aganist motor block?

saw this post on another Ferguson forum

They were dicussing a 135 diesel tractor:
If it still has the ORIGINAL cannister type filter, make certain the filter element is "spring loaded". There's a spring and washer that goes below the filter element. The bolt that holds everything in place passes through that spring/washer. It's very common to find these tractors where that spring is missing. If so, the filter doesn't seal to the block and oil will literally bypass the filter.

My old TO-35 has a cannister oil filter, but I have never seen a spring inside cannister, I always buy Wix oil filters for the tractor.

Just thought I would ask if mine is missing. I can see how oil could just circulate inside canister without going through oil filter if there is no pressure to hold filter aganist tractor block.

I made inquiries in the UK for a spin on kit for the Triumph sports car. If I get any indication a kit is available and will fit the TEA20, will post here.

Amazing what one can find if one searches. I found a new oil filter spin on modification kit, PLUS oil cooler and hoses for my 6 cylinder E Type (XKE) Jaguar for only UK�240.00. Since found out it is the same as fitted to the Jaguar sedan and think I can get the complete kit, used, for less than $100!

Just takes a bit of searching. Google and EBay are very useful!

Phil. I am aware Sparex have spin on oil filter kits for Continental engines but I can't find a similar kit for the Standard engine in my TEA20.

Any idea where I may be able to get one?

Just had a brain wave - I'll check if a spin on oil filter kit is available for the Triumph TR2, TR3, TR3A or TR4 sports car.
Same engine as my Ferguson tractor!! :lol:

Hey Bob, I don't know about a kit for Standard engine, but sounds like you have a good idea to look at Triumphs. I do know the Sparex kit says it works for TO-30s but it does not. It works for the TO-35 and F-40, however. In other words it works for the Z134 engine.

If the TO-35 oil filter looks like this oil filter..... ....

..... on my Ferguson TEA20, yes, there should be a spring and plate in the bottom of the filter can.

No spring, no tension to hold the filter cartridge against the mounting, the oil will by-pass the filer thus no oil filtering!

Fred - Yes, there is supposed to be a spring inside the canister. I"ll include a scan from the parts book. Item #21. P/N is 1 750 585 M1. Hope this helps.

Ordered oil filter canister spring today at Ferguson dealer. Parts man said the washers had been discontinued, I can buy them when I change oil and install spring. Will have bolt out at that time.

Bought a NAPA Gold oil filter and it did not include the two small rubber seals that go around the bolt.
