SPLIT HYDRAULIC CYLINDER

Well, I think I found the reason why my hydraulic system is not working. I could see through the inspection plate that the Control hand fork was missing all together. But why? The answer I found under the lift cover: AN ABSOLUTELY SPLIT HYDRAULIC CYLINDER. DAMN IT!
I suppose it split with a bang years ago. And people just removed the damaged parts (minus the cylinder) and never replaced the parts.
Anybody has an idea what could have caused this? The hydraulic pump loos great, now that I have removed a nasty thick layer of brownish crap from inside the tractor. But the controlvalve is missing. So I will have to replace that too.

Salty. Thanks for the offer. But I live in Denmark (Europe), so that would be way to much trouble.
I shuld be able to find the parts locally. But thanks again anyway.

Salty, I am looking for a cylinder and a lift cover. I just rebuilt the pump this week, and had put new seals in the cylinder a year ago. When I fired up the tractor and raised the lift arms up, all went well untill they reached the top when I heard 3 loud bangs and shut it down to find the lift cover cracked in several places and the cylinder cracked right down the bottom center. So I am looking for replacement parts and trying to figure out why or what happened to cause it to break. I'm guessing that the safty valve didn't work.

Ray,

I have the cylinder and cover here from a TO 30. Don't know if they fit on a TO 35 or not! The cylinder has a casting no. TO510 and the cover is TO501B. The cover has the right lift arm on yet(could not get it off) and I have the left arm also. The cylinder piston is missing - I will have to look around if you need that._

Klaus, I have never had one of these apart as yet and I don't pretend to know what caused it. I have two guess' (1) liquid froze inside the cylinder and burst or (2) is it possible to have to much weight on the lift arms then try to lift it up and cylinder couldn't take it? I am sure others may have had the same experience as you and they will let you know what happened. Good luck. Richard
