Will the aftermarket 8N underbelly muffler, like the ones sold by Tractor supply, work on a 51 TO20?

the to20 te20 use the same exhaust. the difference will be the aftermarket exhaust manifold.

Jim, I used a Ford 8N muffler on my 20 I had to open the 90deg. bend to allow a proper fit you will understand when you bolt the pipe up. Hope this helps. John

Everybody's kinda right but kinda not, either. The farm store muffler assemblies have two different part numbers for Ford and Ferguson for a reason. One is longer from the manifold to the bend, can't remember which. The Ford is straight from the manifold to the bend and the Fergy has a slight bend forward to match the original manifold. IF you have an aftermarket manifold, one size fits all type, which a lot of us do, they point straight down at the manifold and the Fergy pipe doesn't really fit very well because of the bend. I thought about taking mine to a muffler shop and have them straighten it out again, but that's kinda like taking your own eggs to a restaurant for breakfast, so its still on there crooked. Also, if you have to buy a clamp, stay away from the cast aluminum farm store type. Junkiest stuff there is, made in India and break like glass. Especially when you're trying to put a crooked pipe on a straight manifold. LOL. I finally found a "malleable iron" one at my MF dealer and it was aftermarket also, but was much better quality, and believe it or not, cheaper. Just my 2 cents worth.

The mufflers will work the same. The issue is fit up. I know on my TE-20 the bends required to get around the bell housing are a little different than even the TO-20.

I think the issue as pointed out is how it fits to the tractor body not the exhaust manifold. Thus, you could get it if it is at a local store, see how it mounts and if it dosn't work take it back.

I was told they are different,the bend in the pipe right at the exhaust manifold is different.

Thanks for the reply, the muffler I'm looking at is a complete unit with the head pipe for an 8n ford. I've not measured the headpipe length but it looks the same as my TO20. Tractor supply does not have the unit for the TO20 but I was hoping this one would work, I think it is around 30.00

i bought a complete exhaust system for my to20 at a farm and home store for about 25 dollars including tax. it was welded at all connections. i had to use my old hanger. the muffler for my to20 at the same place was about 18 dollars i think so i elected to replace the whole thing for a little more.
