I just converted to 12 volt. Now for some odd reason my starter will not work. The way I wired this thing is one side of the starter switch to the starter, the other side has the hot from the battery, and the alternator, and a wire to the ammeter. If I put voltage straight to the starter it works, so I know I have a good starter. I also made sure all connections were clean. Also, before I converted everything worked fine. I have noticed that in the owners manual that the six volt control/regulator box is connected to the starter switch. I removed the six volt control box when I converted. Is this where the problem lies? Do I need a 12 volt control box? Also, I know my ground is good because my lights all work. Any help would be appreciated!

Mick, I had trouble with my electrics, got great help from Jerry/mt, and found a wireing diagram with the search box on this site. Sounds like jerry hit it again, it's not getting thru the (starter)ignition switch.

I had a problem with the starter switch after changing the cables on my tractor. You have to be very careful or the studs can turn inside and may be out of place. It was a quite awhile ago but I think that I pried the tabs that hold the switch together and then cleaned up the contacts and put it back together again.

Check to make sure that the starter switch is making the circuit.

Mick, I have not done this only read on the forum here how to do it. Did you get a 12v Coil if not then you need a resistor for that. On left column this site under RESEARCH and INFO click Search this Site. Then when that page comes up "where to search"
scroll down to Ferguson Forum. Under "Search Terms"
type in 12v conversion I had I believe 122 hits. I know some one will be on the forum that can talk you through it shortly if this doesn't help. Gook Luck
Richard

You can get 12v coils that do not need resistors, have a look underneath.
