I put a new manifold and exaust on my TO30, its the ones from this site. My problem is that the muffler clamp will tighten on the manifold but the flared end of the exaust is still loose. I even tried turning the clamp over but still had the same results. I tightened the clamp until it broke. Am I doing something wrong? It almost seems that the exaust adapter is too big for the muffler. I am really frustrated too because this is the last thing I need to finish to fire this thing up after a overhaul.

The best fix is buy a pipe for a 35 as it works and dont leak like the ball dose I have been there .

Mick, I installed one of those manifolds a couple years ago myself. This may be a repeat of the obvious, but here's what I know.
Your exhaust pipe flange should mate-up pretty good to the manifold, if it like mine, the new manifold has a bolt-on adapter for the TO exhaust pipe. If your exhaust pipe is old, worn, battered, etc. you may need to work it over with whatever tools as needed to get it to mesh-up pretty good with the manifold. There is not suppose to be a gasket, bushing, dounut, etc. for that connection, metal on metal. That exhaust clamp has a big side and a smaller side. The big side does around the exhaust pipe. I've heard of guys using pieces of metal from coffee cans or pop cans as "filler" between the clamp and the manifold or pipe and seem to think that helps in some cases, you can give that a try.

Mick, I have seen a piece that is the right size to fit between the exhaust flange and the pipe flange and this item is tapered on both sides so that when put together with the clamp you broke it will make a tight and quiet connection. However after looking in my parts book and shop manual I can't find what I was looking for. Hopefully someone else will tell you. I will keep looking. Richard
