Lift Arm Clearance Adjustment.

The manual says to adjust the end caps on the lift arms until the lift arms just about fall on their own weight. By this I assume that the arms are suppose to go up against the lift case/bushings. I replaced my bushing, etc. and even left about 1/16" of the bushins expose, but when my arms are all the way ON, they still fall and the whole rockshaft has about 1/8" side play; and, of course, the arms just fall. Maybe I sould have left more of the new bushings exposed. I have not put gear oil in the system or ran the engine since the rebuild. Seems that I may need a large washer to take up the clearance or press the bushings OUT slightly more. What is wrong here?

The bushings aren't normally a press fit but will slide in their bore with a little force and shouldn't have any length sticking out. If there is end play, about the only thing you could do is to find a couple of washers that will fit between the lift cover and the arms or between the arms and the end caps to act as spacers. Did you replace the rockshaft? If yes, the new one might not be quite right.

Thanks for the answer. My bushings fit in quite snug as they are not suppose to rotate with the rockshaft. Did not replace the rockshaft. Will just make new thick end caps and recess them on my lathe. The old one are rather thin anyway. As I suspected, this is the best solution and also assume that the adjustment procedure is correct.
