I have a TEA20, and it has a dead miss on # 3 cyl. Had no compression on #3. Don't smoke, but oil fill- breather flutters. Anyone have ideas?

take the easy way first, check for a broken valve spring before you remove anything heavy. They do break, I know, I had 2 of them go on me with similar results.

Thanks all I plan on trying the oil then recheck compression. I will probably end up removing the valve cover first. thanks Dave---

Sounds like you have some blow by but that wouldn't be unusual for an older engine. How is the compression in the other cylinders?
If you can find the scope Ray is talking about that would be great. If not try this.
Squirt about a teaspoons worth of oil in the cylinder and then recheck the compression. The idea is that if the rings are bad the oil will temporarily seal them and the compression will rise slightly. If that doesn't give you a clue you can pull the valve cover and check to see if the valves are closing as they should.
If neither of these works then you will be ready to remove the head.

no compression could be stuck valve, broken valve spring or possibly holed or cracked piston.

I agree. You can use a small flexable inspection light/scope to look inside the cylinder, if you have access to one. Most good repair shops have them. To buy one is too expensive, aprox.$300. Then again, it's only about an hours work to pull the head;which you must do for repairs anyway. My thoughts- Ray,IN
