I think my TEA20 starter overhaul cost around Aus$70 (US$60) and that included new armature shaft bush, new brushes, commutator skim, new original Lucas starter pinion and test.

If you need one, I have one that has been rebuilt by a good repair shop, and has never be used since then. It is missing the thin band around the brush area, other than that, looks brand new. if you want it, it would save time and gas if it was UPS"d to your door. I am parting out the remainder of a TO-30, and still have it. If interested, e-mail me. Price will include shipping from IL.

As mentioned below, I usually get an automotive electrical shop to do rebuilds on starters or generators. There is a big price discrepancy depending on whether it needs nose cone repair or not, but generally it will be between $50 and 100 in my neck of the woods.

You might try Weitzel's D.C. Electric Norwalk, Ohio 419-668-2844. They list kits on their eBay store site - Triodiode. I've gotten a couple of things from them recently.

glen. I don't see a starter motor rebuild "kit" on any of the usual parts supplier's web sites. I know a "kit" is not available for the Lucas starter on the TEA20.
A "kit" would probably only consist of the armature bearing or bush, brushes and a starter pinion? Can't say I've ever seen a rebuild kit for any starter or generator.

Unless you have access to a lathe (to skim the commutator) and electrical test equipment, I'd be inclined to do as Jerry suggests, pay an auto electrician $50 to $70 to overhaul the starter motor.

Look in the yellow pages under Auto-Electric. They can rebuild your starter.
