Plug wires touching.

Hello gentlemen.
I recently purchased a new set of plug wires, from my local farm equipment store. But they seem to be a bit long, so some of them are touching each other. I have heard that this could cause problems. But I cannot say if is is for me yet, as I am currently putting my TEA-2080 together after changing some bits and pieces. Should I get a different set of wires or is this problem overrated?

Run it and just observe if you get miss firing or any other rough running issue. if it runs will do not worry.

G'Day Klaus, Spark plug leads on Gypsy Major airraft engines (Tiger Moth) run thruugh steel tubes most of the way from the magnetos. I imagine the only problem of the wires touching could be if the insulation chaffes through and the wires inside touch. You can solve this by using cable ties to stop the wires vibrating. It doesn't cost anything to try it just like it is You should use solid copper core wires and not the
new carbon fiber wires used on cars.

If you can't get the spacers put a piece of garden hose over it or the like.Check at night for spark.

The way I figure is if they do not touch it is one less thing you might not have trouble with.

The wires can touch but they shouldn"t run closely parallel with each other. If thy have to run closely they should be at right angles. The concern about wires running closely parallel, as I understand it, is that one wire will induce a current in the other wire and cause a misfire. I don"t have any direct experience to say that this is a serious concern.

Don't the spark plug wires on the 'N' series fords run together through a tube above the engine? I also have always heard about not running the spark plug wires parallel but it doesn't seem to bother the fords. Maybe later higher voltage 12 volt ignition systems where affected by this more than older systems.

Your probably right about the N series Fords but running within a metal tube may make a difference. We need to have a EE address this issue as I am out of my depth in this regard.
As I said in my note, I do not have any bad experiences with this problem on any of the older machinery I"m familiar with.

just get a couple of plug wire spacers from your local auto parts store. The ons where the wires snap in and that will hold them apart
