Rear Tire Question

My To-30 is in need of a new set of rear tires and I have a few questions? The tires that are on it now are Goodyear 14.9x28's on 10 inch rims. I have a chance to buy two used tires of this size that are in really good shape, so I'm told, I haven't seen them personally. What I'm wondering is, with my old tires having most of the tread worn off and being such a tight fit to the fenders, will the new tires with more tread have clearance to fit. Also, I read somewhere that tire sizes changed, so are the old 14.9x28 sizes the same as a new 14.9x28. I was thinking about going to 12.4x28's but I can get a good deal on the 14.9's if there as good as they're supposed to be.

I have something totally different on the Rear of my TO-35 I have 14.9x24

they work and look great. The nice thing is they make a big foot print and stay on top of wet ground pretty well. This is my second set the first ones were full of fluid ! I didnt replace it with these and sorta regret it now

Your tractor your call but I would go 12.4-28.
Here's a couple of pix with an 11.2-28, 12.4-28, and a 13.6-28. As the tires get wider they get taller too. 14.8-28's wider and taller yet, a friend has a set on his TO35 and I think they look too big on that tractor.

That tire size is HUGE for a TO-30 and would not look right. I have found it is best to go with the correct size tire. Remember also, the wider the tire dimension with the same rim diameter, the taller the overall tire gets, affecting ground speed !!

14.9 are too wide for 10" rims. Look like donuts. 12.4 are the proper size.

I can't answer the question about the 14.9 inch tires but I can't get my hand between my new 12.4's and the fender so you surely don't have much room to work. You could put some shims under the fenders to raise them enough as long as you didn't set the rims at their most narrow configuration.
