I am going to split my TO30. I am tempted to try multi-grade motor oil in the transmission as there has been some discussion the past several months. Those of you currently using multi-grade, have you been pleased with the results? Thank you for taking the time to give me some of your experience.

Remember you are lubing trans and lift system. You will be told by 8 of 10 people that you can use most any tranmission/hyd oil that says MF, on this forum I havs seen people say they run motor oil in trans of these little fergs.
Not true on these old tractors, they require 90 weight mineral oil, not cheap. They have brass bearings inside transmission and the newer oils will not properly lube those type bearings. New tractors do not use these type bearings.

Just remember the trans lube requirements when you are working on lift problems. I put a 1/2 qt. of lucas trans fix in my 1957 to-35 and the old girls lift system will still lift front of tractor off ground.

keep them cranking!!

I put the 15W40 in my MF50 and it makes a BIG difference in the cold (used it as low as 10 deg so far). Also had no problems this past summer mowing in 80-90 deg temps. I have a TO30 apart right now that I am going to use the 15W40 in when I get it back together and I have a working TO20 I need to change out soon. It takes a long time for the hydraulics to get going in extreme cold.

I am much happier only having one oil for the complete tractor, to put to sleep the issue of 15w-40 working in the cold months today I had the TO-20 out moving snow and it performed flawlessly, and it parks outside with no cover swtarted right up and the hydraulics worked right away. I am located in Illinois just to let you know my weather conditions.
