TO30 Oil Pressure

I just purchased a 1952 H-Ferguson TO30 with Z129 engine and supposedly rebuilt engine. When I first start the tractor the oil pressure it about 20lbs. I noticed after I run it for a while it drops to zero. It has an after market oil pressure gage with a plastic tube for oil to reach the gage with a max reading of 100lbs. Is there a proper gage to buy and what else can I check. The tractor does not get hot and sounds ok.

Your gauge is likely to be OK but there
is probably a problem with the engine.
A rebuild should have included an oil pump
rebuild but perhaps this was not done. The pump drive gear is made of aluminum
and the teeth wear down to the point of
intermittant contact. This caused the demise
of my TO30. Do NOT run it with zero pressure!
Throwing a rod through your crankcase can
ruin your whole day. The pump is easy to get
to and the rebuild kit about $30. Good luck.

My rebuilt TO 30 had low oil pressure and I found out that the relief valve was stuck partially open. Now when warmed up it runs at 25 psi at speed and 10 psi at idle. I installed a 0 - 30 psi gauge and hooked it up to the original tubing. With this range I can get a more accurate reading. When cold, it will reach about 35 psi.

The TO30 has a oil pressure relief valve set for a maximum of 30psi. I would first replace the present gauge with one that is 0-35psi. When installing the new gauge, clean all the pressure lines to it. If you still get a zero psi reading at operating temperature,loosen the line at the block and see if you get any flow. The pressure valve could be bad, and release the pressure just because the oil temp.opens it;just like a bad coolant thermostat opens before it should. Average oil pressure gauges are not right on, so don't worry if you have 5psi at operating temp. New gauges should be available from the parts suppliers listed at the left.

I have the same problem. I replaced the guage with some improvement. Where is the relief valve? In the pump?

The oil pump is a single stage,gear type pump. The relief valve is in the pump, and is set to bypass at 30psi. Follow Mike's advice, like he said, it's easy to do.
